Piles of Mahjong

Piles of Mahjong is a casual tile-matching puzzle where the goal is to clear layered piles by collecting three identical tiles. Every selected tile moves into a seven-space holding area at the bottom of the screen. Complete a matching set of three and those tiles disappear. Fill all seven spaces without making enough matches and the level ends.

Released in August 2024, the game uses HTML5 and works on desktop, mobile, and tablet browsers. It uses Mahjong-inspired symbols alongside simpler designs such as birds and pandas.

About Piles of Mahjong

The main challenge is not finding two tiles that look alike. You need to think about whether you can reach the third matching tile before your holding area becomes crowded.

A visible pair can look tempting, but taking both is risky when the third tile is buried underneath several layers. Sometimes removing another tile first is more useful because it opens a part of the pile you need later.

This makes the seven empty spaces your most important resource.

The game is inspired by Mahjong tiles, but it does not use traditional four-player Mahjong rules. It works as a modern match-three puzzle that can be understood without knowing the tabletop game.

How To Play Piles of Mahjong

Click a visible tile to move it into the bottom row.

A good approach is:

1. Look for complete groups of three first.
2. Keep matching tiles close together in the holding area.
3. Avoid collecting too many different designs.
4. Check what each tile is covering before selecting it.
5. Protect empty spaces when the row begins filling.
6. Use helper tools only when the board becomes difficult.

When you reach five or six occupied spaces, slow down and look for a match before adding another unrelated tile.

Piles of Mahjong gives you several ways to recover from a difficult board.

• Reshuffle: Costs 300 reward points and rearranges the pile.
• Flip Face Up: Costs 300 points and reveals hidden information.
• Auto-Match: Costs 100 points and helps clear matches from the bottom row.

You also begin with two tile-removal chances. Extra removal help costs 100 reward points.

Save these tools for situations where they can prevent a failed level rather than using them immediately.
