WoW Forever Gold Guide: How to Afford Your First Mount
World of Warcraft: Forever goes live on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, and everyone starts at level 1 with an empty bag. Your first mount waits at level 40, and the trainer wants roughly 100 gold for it. Earning WoW Forever gold is not difficult. Reaching 40 with any of it left is the hard part. Access comes with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, so the trainer is the only real entry fee.
What Your First Mount Actually Costs

Forever moves the price of the mount into the riding skill, the way The Burning Crusade did. You pay the trainer once at level 40 and a mount of your race comes with the skill. There is no separate vendor purchase for your first ride, and no flying at all. Blizzard designer Kris Zierhut put training at 100 gold for the first tier and 1,000 gold for the second, and beta testers reported the same.
| Purchase | Level | Reported Cost | Notes |
| Apprentice Riding, 60 percent speed | 40 | 100 gold | Racial mount included |
| Journeyman Riding, 100 percent speed | 60 | 1,000 gold | Ground only, no flying |
| Extra racial mount color | 40 | 20 gold | Cosmetic |
| Epic racial mount | 60 | 200 gold | After Journeyman Riding |
| Auction house cut | Any | 5 percent faction, 15 percent neutral | Beta figures |
Reputation discounts cut the fee, so build your own faction’s reputation before you pay. Paladins and Warlocks get class mounts from quests instead, which frees that gold for gear.
Riding is not your only bill. Class trainers charge for new spell ranks every few levels from 1 to 40, and those fees are why most players arrive at 40 with 12 gold and a bag of grey trash. Budget for both.
Gathering Professions That Pay From Day One
Take two gathering professions on your first character. Crafting professions eat gold while you level them, and nobody has the materials to feed them in week one anyway.
- Mining and Herbalism. The highest raw value on the auction house. You switch between two tracking abilities, which costs a little time per zone.
- Skinning and Herbalism. The smoothest option while questing. You skin beasts you were killing regardless, so the leather is close to free.
- Mining and Skinning. Best for melee classes grinding beast and humanoid camps rather than running quest circuits.
Skinning is the cheapest start at roughly 10 copper for training and a knife. Mining and Herbalism cost nothing beyond the trainer visit. Forever also adds scarce materials such as Pyrite, Frilled Lichen and Pristine Leather, plus more than 600 new recipes that need ordinary ore, herbs and leather. Every crafter leveling alongside you is a buyer.
The Legacy perk Bountiful Harvest raises the scarce materials you pull from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning. If gold is your goal, spend your early Legacy investment there.
Auction House Basics For The First Few Weeks

Forever has no realms. One auction house serves each faction on each ruleset in each region, with neutral auctioneers serving both sides at a steeper cut. That market is deeper and faster than any Classic realm, so cheap listings vanish and undercuts land within minutes.
- Sell raw materials, not finished goods.
- Post in small stacks of five and ten, not twenties.
- Stay in your faction house and keep the 5 percent cut.
- Undercut by copper, never by gold.
- Buy nothing in week one that you cannot resell.
Launch week prices for Linen Cloth, Copper Ore, Peacebloom and Light Leather are inflated and temporary. Sell into that window, and do not treat those numbers as a permanent baseline.
Money Sinks To Skip Before Level 40
- Auction house greens. Quest rewards replace them within the hour, at launch week prices.
- Every rank of every spell. Train the abilities you press in every fight. Skip the ranks you never cast.
- Extra mount colors. Twenty gold buys a different model and nothing else. Buy riding first.
- Repeat respecs. The cost climbs with each use and drops only once per week.
- Bag upgrades you cannot afford. Eight slot bags carry you to 40. Sixteen slot bags are a level 50 luxury.
If You Would Rather Not Farm
Not everyone has twenty hours a week for other routes. Inside the game, the alternatives are dungeon carries arranged in the LFG channel, a second character leveled for quest gold, and a guild bank that helps members with training costs. GDKP runs are banned in North America and Europe, so loot auctions are not a gold source here.
Outside the game, paid services exist. LFCarry’s WoW Forever gold page sells two different things: a guild membership with a monthly gold quota drawn from its guild bank, and piloted farming, where one of its players farms on your own character, priced from 12 dollars per 100 gold. The second option transfers no gold between accounts.
Weigh any of it against Blizzard’s stated position. Senior designer Josh Greenfield said the studio will very aggressively punish gold buyers in Forever, up to permanent account closure. Read what a service actually does with your account before you buy.
Frequently Asked Questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| How much gold do I need for my first mount? | Roughly 100 gold at level 40 for Apprentice Riding, with a mount of your race included. Reputation discounts lower the cost. |
| What level is the fast mount? | Level 60, for about 1,000 gold. Start saving as soon as you train Apprentice Riding. |
| Does WoW Forever have a WoW Token? | No. Blizzard has announced no Token and no paid character boost, so all gold in the economy comes from players earning it. |
| When should I stop selling and start saving? | Around level 35. Vendor your greys, list your materials, and keep your riding reserve untouched until the trainer is paid. Raids open on December 9, 2026, according to the Forever content roadmap, so consumable demand may rise from that week. |
